“Recommended Guidance for Extended Use and Limited Reuse of N95 Filtering Facepiece Respirators in Healthcare Settings | NIOSH | CDC,” June 8, 2020. https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/hcwcontrols/recommendedguidanceextuse.html.
What does this mean?
Ideally, single-use masks like N95 and surgical masks should not be reused. However if they have to be reused, taking these steps ensures safety:
- Hang up your masks OR store them in a breathable container like a paper bag
- Make sure they don’t touch and contaminate each other!
- Label your masks properly so that you don’t accidentally wear and contaminate someone else’s mask
- Replace containers regularly
