improve your mask fit!

You can make your mask fit better! For gaps around nose or glasses fogging up, tape your mask to your nose or attach a wire on the top of your mask to fit around your nose bridge. If your mask is too loose, tie your straps so they're shorter or wear pantyhose over the mask.

Problem: Your mask has gaps around your nose OR your glasses fog up

Solution #1: Tape your mask to your nose

  • Put the mask on your face
  • Get a 3-4 inch long piece of tape and attach the mask from one side of your nose to the other. Ideally, use a strong tape like medical tape.
  • If your tape isn’t wide enough:
    • Get three pieces of tape
    • Attach the mask at the top and sides of your nose bridge
  • The mask should fit snugly to your nose bridge with no gaps

Solution #2: Attach wire to your mask's nose bridge

  • Get a piece of wire that's 3-4 inches long (pipe cleaners, coat hanger wire, or other craft wires work very well. All of these supplies can be bought online)
  • Using tape, glue, or a needle and thread, attach it to the top of your cloth mask
  • Put on your mask
  • Shape the wire so that the top of the mask fits snugly against your nose bridge with no gaps

Problem: Your mask is too loose

Solution #1: Tie your mask straps to shorten them

  • Tie a small slip knot on the mask loops; keep the knots near the front of the mask so that the knots aren't uncomfortable against your ears
  • Put the mask on your face
  • If your mask straps are still too long, SLOWLY pull on the knot loop to shorten the elastic even more
  • If your mask straps are now too short, SLOWLY pull on the ends of the knot to lengthen the elastic

Solution #2: Wear a section of pantyhose over your mask

This is a research-backed trick. It's harder to pull off, but we know for sure that it works very well. Click here to learn more about the science behind this trick.
  • Cut an 8-10 inch tall band of pantyhose near the leg area
  • Put on your mask
  • Put the band of pantyhose on your face and adjust so that it covers the mask from top to bottom
  • The mask should fit snugly against your face without gaps
